The Tour de France has announced that Bourg-Saint-Maurice will be an overnight stop in 2009. Which means that Bourg will be getting two stages in 2009!
The first is the 159km stage 16 on Tuesday 21st July.
This stage will run from Martigny in Switzerland and the first major climb will be the Hors category climb over the Col du Grand-Saint-Bernard. This is then followed by the category 1 climb over the Col du Petit-Saint-Bernard, and then down into into Bourg-Saint-Maurice.
The second is the 170km mountain stage 17 on Wednesday 22nd July.
A competitive stage that will run from Bourg-Saint-Maurice to Le Grand-Bornand and includes 4 category 1 climbs and one category 2. The first of the cat 1 climbs is over the Cormet de Roselend, past beautiful Lac de Roselend and through Beaufort, the famous cheese town.
